Letter to Health & Human
Services Commissioner Albert Hawkins
Statement - Council Meeting July 9, 2008
DSHS Proposed Rules July 2008
The DSHS Council made a grave
error in voting to move the draft proposal forward. Our work will
continue on this issue until we effect the kind of change needed.
We have made clear all of the
challenges and violations on the part of DSHS Staff - yes - violations.
We will continue to point out the errors and inconsistencies until
someone along the way finally gets it and cares enough to do something
about it. I still have hope in the system.
Keep checking back with us
periodically for updates on what to do, where to go, and who to call.

Information
About Upcoming Rules Presentation to DSHS Council
We strongly encourage all school
owners to attend the meeting and be prepared to provide comment
on the proposals.
Thanks to everyone who attended the
Stakeholder Meeting (Hearing) on October 1, 2007. I have
included the
formal statement submitted to the Commissioner on behalf of
TAMSO for your perusal. Feel free to download and give to your
State Representative or Senator so they can help us with our
effort to allow schools to do business according to the intent
and letter of the law, HB 2644, and our comments and proposals.
Stakeholder Meeting Regarding Draft
Proposed Rules and HB 2644 Implementation
The Massage Therapy Licensing Program will hold a
stakeholder meeting on Monday, October 1, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. The
meeting will be held at Texas Department of State Health
Services, 1100 W. 49th Street, Room K-100, Austin, Texas. The
purpose of the meeting is to receive stakeholder input on draft
proposed rules and topics relating to the implementation of HB
2644. A meeting agenda and the draft proposed rules will posted
on the DSHS website on September 24, 2007.
HB 2644
is now in effect (September 1, 2007).
DSHS has
sent a letter
to all Massage Schools directing them as to how HB 2644 will be
enforced. There are grave concerns with respect to these directives.
Please attend our next meeting, planned
for September 14, 2007.
